Students at Watt Hardison Elementary are getting ready to celebrate Red Ribbon Week which is October 29-2nd. In guidance this month, students will be discussing the importance of being drug free. Our theme this year is “Drug Free is the Key.” The Just Say No Club has gotten together to plan activities for students to participate in during Red Ribbon Week including Portland Family Fun Night, a food drive for Cumberland EMC,  and wearing things that promote being drug free. These days are as follows:

Monday- Hats Off to Being Drug Free (Wear your favorite/crazy hat)

Tuesday- Team Up Against Drugs (Wear clothes that support your favorite sports team)

Wednesday- I’m Too Smart for Drugs (Dress up as a stereotypical nerd)

Thursday- I’m Proud to Be Drug Free (Wear all red day)

Friday- Drugs are Wacky, Don’t be Tacky (Wear mismatched clothes)

Portland Family Fun Night is a carnival held at Portland East Middle School each year during Red Ribbon Week. It will be Tuesday, October 30th from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. in the gym and is FREE for all families! Our club will be doing a cake walk this year, if you are able to donate a cake, cupcakes, or cookies, please contact Ms. Maniatis at the school. You are not required to attend Portland Family Fun Night if you bring a baked good, it can be dropped off at WHE earlier that day.  Please stop by with your family wearing a Watt Hardison Elementary  T- Shirt or our school colors.

Please talk with your children about the dangers of drugs, including alcohol and tobacco products, and discuss the importance of Red Ribbon week. Many books and materials in the local library can help children understand thei mportance of being drug-free. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our Guidance Counselor, Ms. Maniatis, at 615-325-3233.

Thank You!!!!
